I am a specialist in women’s health, childbirth, and IVF. I have been a doctor for 15 years, 13 of which have been dedicated to women’s health and obstetrics.
I was born on 26.09.1980 in Uşak. I am married with two children. I completed primary and secondary school in Uşak, attended Isparta Süleyman Demirel Science High School for high school, and graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine. I completed my specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital.
During my residency, I started to question birth and delivery methods. I always thought about how we could support pregnant women to make birth easier and complete the process with positive emotions.
In my second year of residency, I became pregnant with my daughter Zeynep. I wanted to deliver her naturally, with as little intervention as possible and with positive emotions. I started my preparations during pregnancy for this.
At that time, there were no trainings available. Together with the midwives in our hospital, we developed a system. I chose my birth team consisting of people who made me feel good and could provide positive support. I gave birth to my daughter naturally.
I stayed with her as much as possible. Meeting my daughter in this way made me feel very good. I started to think why all mothers shouldn’t be able to meet their babies like this. The postpartum process led me to research secure attachment, and my studies focused on skin-to-skin contact.
Life is all about attachment, and those who start life with secure attachment are always one step ahead. The first step is to establish contact at the moment of birth through skin, voice, and eye contact. As a birth supporter, I realized how far I was from these moments.
I started researching globally to see how the world approaches birth and whether such births are possible. My research introduced me to hypnobirthing, Lamaze birth, active birth, and birth with hypnosis, and eventually led me to Istanbul Birth Academy in Turkey.
After my specialization, I started my compulsory service in the Cihanbeyli district of Konya and became pregnant with my second child, Yusuf. Seeing how the processes I learned with my first child affected my bonding with Yusuf, I made my definite decision.
I decided to meet with expectant parents before or during pregnancy, share the processes with them from the very beginning, support them in preparing for childbirth and parenthood, and then support their births.
At this stage of my career, I completed a 9-month training at Istanbul Birth Academy authorized by Lamaze International, Hypnobirthing, and Active Birth to become a childbirth preparation instructor and breathing coach.
This process was like starting my own internal journey. Immediately after, to support families even before pregnancy, I completed my IVF specialization at Koç University American Hospital.
For a holistic approach to women’s health, I completed trainings in homeopathy, phytotherapy, aromatherapy, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), and hypnosis.
Although water birth has been practiced worldwide for centuries, it is not well-known in our country and is unfortunately not included in our specialty curriculum. Witnessing how women relax in water, I received training from Barbara Harper, founder of Waterbirth International and one of the pioneers of water birth.
As I informed pregnant women, I noticed their anxieties decreased. Believing that information is the antidote to fear, I regularly started providing childbirth preparation, breathing exercises, pilates, yoga, parenting preparation, breastfeeding, baby care, first aid, and postpartum support trainings.
While dealing with birth fears and emotional discharge techniques, I realized the roots of these issues go far back and are triggered during pregnancy and childbirth. I then decided that families should be supported with individual psychotherapy, which led me to holistic psychotherapy.
I am currently continuing my Integrative Psychotherapy training, which includes theoretical, formulation, supervision, and hypnosis courses with Dr. Tahir Özakkaş, President of Istanbul Psychotherapy Institute and board member of the Society for the Exploration of Psychotherapy Integration (SEPI).
While listening to the concerns and fears of my pregnant patients, I also observed that sexual life and family dynamics play a significant role. Although some sexual problems have psychological origins, many also stem from organic causes.
Thus, my path crossed with cosmetic gynecology and genital aesthetics. I began supporting sexual and urogynecological problems caused by difficult births, aging, or hormonal effects with surgical interventions.
During IVF treatments, I saw that holistic approaches and complementary support therapies significantly increased success rates. I also received post-specialization training in hysteroscopy and laparoscopy, which we frequently use in IVF.
The doctor-patient trust relationship forms the basis of treatment. Every patient and pregnant woman deserves careful attention, sufficient information, and evidence-based care and treatment. Since university, I have had an interest in law, which led me to health law through my research.
I am currently continuing my doctorate in Health Law at Istanbul Medipol University. Following the principle that knowledge grows when shared, I started teaching medical students as an Assistant Professor at Istinye University and now continue at Nişantaşı University.
All the trainings I have received and continue to receive, along with my life experiences, have allowed me to approach my patients and pregnant women holistically. The World Health Organization defines health as: "Health is not merely the absence of disease, but a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being," which has become my principle as well.
Each training changed my perspective on pregnancy, patients, and life. I have completed my own internal journey on this path that started as a doctor.
With the same excitement and passion as the first day, I continue to touch the lives of my patients and pregnant women with holistic approaches and evidence-based knowledge…
