What Are Sexual Desire Problems?
Sexual desire problems are conditions that prevent a man, woman, or couple from having a healthy and satisfying sexual life.
These desire problems include fears and anxieties related to sexuality, shame, guilt feelings, lack of sexual desire and coldness, inability to engage in sexual intercourse, pain or spasms during intercourse, erectile dysfunction in men, premature ejaculation or difficulty ejaculating, and lack of arousal or inability to reach orgasm in women.
How Common Are Sexual Dysfunction Disorders in Men?
Sexual dysfunction disorders are also very common in men. Most of these problems are related to erection. Worldwide studies show that approximately 55% of men aged 40 to 70 have mild, moderate, or severe erection problems.
About 15% of adult men and 30% of men over 50 years old experience a loss of sexual desire. 30% of men have premature ejaculation problems, while 10% experience intermittent inability to ejaculate or delayed ejaculation.
How Common Are Sexual Dysfunction Disorders in Women?
Sexual disinterest and inability to reach orgasm are among the most common problems in women. At least one-third of women report never having felt sexual desire in their lifetime. On average, 50% of women do not achieve orgasm. Another common problem is vaginismus.
What Are the Causes of Sexual Desire Disorders?
The causes can be examined under two main categories:
- Organic causes: vascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes, chronic diseases, side effects of medications, alcohol or drug use
- Psychological causes: relationship problems with partner, depression, anxiety disorders, personality traits
How Is Treatment Applied?
First, it is determined whether the problem is psychological or physical. Then, the relevant doctors define the necessary treatment plan. Diagnostic techniques are determined and appropriate treatment is started for the patient.
