Why Should I Have Genital Aesthetic Surgery?
Genital aesthetic surgery is no longer a taboo and is now among the most commonly performed aesthetic procedures. Genital aesthetics is very important for women's mental and physical health.
Genital aesthetic procedures today are quick to complete and are easy enough that the patient can return to daily life the next day. However, these surgeries must only be performed by surgeons who are experienced, trained, and have strong references in their field.
When a trust-based communication is established between the patient and doctor, genital aesthetic procedures yield satisfactory results. With advanced and rapid medical techniques, patients can easily achieve their desired outcomes.
What is Genital Aesthetic Surgery?
Genital aesthetics includes all aesthetic procedures applied to the genital organs. It consists of the vagina, labia majora (large lips), labia minora (small lips), the hymen, and the upper part of the lips (Mons pubis).
Any deformity in these areas of the genital region not only causes an unpleasant appearance aesthetically but also leads to issues such as insecurity, decreased sexual desire, dissatisfaction, or shame in women.
Genital aesthetics aims to improve both aesthetic dissatisfaction and functional problems.
Types of Genital Aesthetic Procedures
- Labiaplasty (aesthetic surgery of the inner and outer labia)
The outer genital structure consists of lips called labia, which include the labia majora and the smaller labia minora inside. Over time, depending on the individual's characteristics or age, sagging may occur causing deterioration in appearance.
Sagging, size differences, or asymmetries in this area can cause serious problems especially during sexual intercourse and when wearing tight clothing or swimwear. Labiaplasty addresses these issues to provide a more aesthetic and healthy appearance.
- Clitoral Hoodoplasty (Correction of clitoral folds)
The clitoris is the most functional area for sexual pleasure and orgasm in women. In some women, excess tissue called 'labium minus' in the inner lips may cover the clitoris, leading to reduced sexual pleasure.
Excess skin folds above the clitoris may be aesthetically displeasing and negatively affect sexual arousal, which may necessitate clitoral hoodoplasty. This surgery is usually performed during labiaplasty.
- Surgical Vaginal Tightening (Vaginoplasty)
A vagina that is wider than normal can cause sexual problems. Multiple births, previous genital surgeries, or congenital reasons can cause vaginal widening. Vaginoplasty aims to correct this problem.
Factors like multiple births, unstitched or opened episiotomy during first delivery, large baby delivery, tissue loss in the vagina, and age-related elasticity and looseness may occur. During vaginal tightening, a longitudinal piece is removed from the back wall of the vagina.
The muscle layer and mucous membrane are sutured separately during repair. Although vaginoplasty is mostly done under local anesthesia, it can also be performed under general anesthesia. The operation takes about 1 hour to complete.
